About WIPromo

The classic game reimagined for a new generation

WP

WIPromo began with an idea, challenges, and a passion for bringing back traditional gameplay in a digital world. Our founders, inspired by the nostalgic milk cap games of their youth, decided to create a modern version with high-quality materials and unique designs that appeal to both collectors and players.

Our mission is to bring back the simple joy of collecting, trading, and playing with physical game pieces. Each set of WIPromo is crafted with care using sustainable materials and features unique designs that collectors of all ages will love.

History of Milk Caps

Milk caps have a rich history dating back to when they were used as round paperboard bottle-tops by dairies. They were made of two layers of stiff board, with a flip-up pulltab, secured with a staple, fitting snugly in a groove on the inside of the bottle neck.

However, the game itself has even deeper roots. In Japan, a similar game called “Menkos” was played over 600 years ago using round playing pieces the same size as milk caps, but made of clay, ceramic, or wood, with colorful images of classical Japanese icons.

Japanese immigrants brought this game to Hawaii in the early 1900s, and until the 1960s, children would collect the waxed top inserts from bottled milk to play a similar game. The modern resurgence began in the 1990s with the POG (Passion Orange Guava) branded milk caps from Hawaii.

Collectible Value

The collectible value of WIPromo extends far beyond their manufacturing cost. Just as art appreciates in value based on rarity, design, and cultural significance, WIPromo are designed to be collectible items that can gain value over time.

During the milk cap craze of the 1990s, rare caps could sell for hundreds of times their manufacturing cost. The Lexus Cap, for example, was a promotional cap that came with the purchase of a Lexus vehicle but later sold for $50-$250 on the collector's market.

The value of a ChuckCap collection depends on many factors: rarity of the designs, limited edition releases, special materials used, and the condition of the caps. Most importantly, a cap's value is based on the enjoyment it brings the collector, whether from the art, the nostalgia, or the prestige of owning a complete set.

How to Play WIPromo

Official Game Rules

The Object of the Game

The object of the game is to win as many caps as you can! WIPromo is played with two or more players. Everyone should review the rules to determine if you're playing for fun or for keeps.

Step 1: Ante Up

Each player contributes an equal amount of caps to the stack. All caps should be stacked “art side up” into one straight column.

Step 2: Determine First Player

Players determine who goes first. Players then take turns one after the other.

Step 3: Use Your Slammer

Each player uses what is called a Kini, slammer, or Hitter. A player's turn consists of throwing the Kini onto the top of the stack of caps, attempting to flip as many caps over as possible.

Step 4: Collect Your Winnings

All caps that land blank side up (art side down) are that player's winnings. All remaining caps art side up are restacked into a straight and even column for the next player.

Step 5: Continue Until Complete

Players continue taking turns until the very last cap is won. The player with the most caps at the end wins!

Historical Origins

The game has historical roots dating back over 600 years to Japan, where a similar game called “Menkos” was played using round playing pieces made of clay, ceramic, or wood with colorful images of Japanese icons.

In America, the game grew popular in the mid-1980s and 1990s following the introduction of “POG” (Passion Orange Guava) branded milk caps from the Haleakala Dairy in Hawaii. WIPromo continues this nostalgic tradition with modern designs and high-quality materials.
